A Toolkit for Providing Diabetes
Programs at Food Banks

Client

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) Program

Roles

Web Designer

Problem

Food banks seeking to implement diabetes programs often face challenges in accessing centralized, practical resources tailored to their unique needs. Existing materials were fragmented and not user-friendly, making it difficult for staff to find actionable strategies for food-based interventions relating to diabetes self-management.

Goal

Design an intuitive, visually cohesive website that organizes comprehensive guidance into a clear, approachable, and easy-to-navigate toolkit. The site needed to be accessible to a wide range of users, including those without technical expertise, while maintaining alignment with the DSMES program’s visual standards and public health mission.

Action

A clean, user-friendly website was created to house the tool kit’s structured guidance and curated resources. The design reflects the DSMES program’s visual language and made technical information feel more approachable. Design priorities included clear typographic hierarchy, simple navigation organized by stage of implementation, and accessible layouts that support all users.
